Jerry Green Dog Rescue North Yorkshire is recruiting!

We are currently recruiting for two Dog Welfare Assistants to join our team on a full time permanent contract. The successful candidates will be a cheerful, confident and friendly, who can work on their own, prioritising their own workload, and also as part of a small team. 

 

Delivering our Meet&Match® approach to rehoming, is as much about experience as aptitude, so excellent Customer Care skills are vital. As well as looking after the welfare of the dogs in our care, you will also be responsible for administration including databases, email and social media as well as things like Gift Aid.

Dog Welfare Assistant Job Description

 

 

 

Responsible to:        Deputy Centre Manager

Salary:                                    £15,600- £17,400

 

Main Purpose of the Job:  To support the Centre Manager to promote the mission, vision and values of the organisation, ensuring that quality standards, sound dog population management so that all dogs are cared for as outlined in our Dog Welfare policies and ensure the Centre maximises rehoming opportunities. To admit dogs and implement each dogs care and any training programme in order to successfully rehome them. To educate potential new owners and the general public in the care and welfare of their dogs.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  

1.    Work as directed by the Centre Management Team

2.    In accordance with Jerry Green procedures conduct dog assessments.

3.    Ensure dogs available for rehoming are positively promoted to maximise adoption and supporter opportunities.

4.    Assist customers to select dogs through the ‘Meet & Match’ appropriate to their circumstances by providing accurate and relevant information and advice. 

5.    Care for all dogs at the Centre in an appropriate and welfare friendly manner, to include cleaning of kennels, grooming, feeding, exercise and administration of medication as required.

6.    Ensure that any training programme is delivered and accurate and up to date records are kept.

7.    Ensure the highest standards of customer care are delivered to all centre visitors and contacts by presenting a professional and friendly approach both face to face and on the telephone and all other communication methods including social media.

8.    To positively promote the benefits of our insurance partnership, our shop goods and our services to add value to the customer experience.    

9.    To take responsibility for asking for direct support, be that for funds through regular Individual Giving, one off donations, goods and services, or voluntary and supporter opportunities.  

10. Maintain accurate records on dog management database to include admission, adoption, and behaviour, financial and veterinary information as well as ensuring that all customer information is shared with Central Office.

11. Be active in raising the profile of JGDR taking a proactive approach with fundraising, publicity and education events and activities Support and all that you do!

12. Assist and support Centre volunteers.

13. Undertake personal CPD training as agreed.

14. Adhere to local Health and Safety requirements.

15. Interface with media as required.

16. Undertake other reasonable duties as required.

 

 

Person Specification

 

Qualifications/Training/Experience

 

-          Preferably qualified to National Diploma, NVQ2 or equivalent in animal care/welfare.

-          Paid or voluntary experience of working in a dog rescue environment or equivalent.

 

Dog Welfare Experience

-          Understands and implements the dog welfare policy, standards and procedures, treating each person and each dog as an individual, recognizing their needs and adapting our approach to ensure those needs are met

-          Passionate about improving the welfare of our dogs with the ability to provide good dog welfare including all aspects of caring for, bathing, exercising and basic training of all dogs to bring out the best in them.

-          Sound dog assessment to understand their behaviours and needs and makes a contribution to  creating a relaxed, stress free environment

-          Looks after facilities to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose for visitors, staff and dogs alike

-          Ability to work flexibly, willing to work beyond contracted hours to meet the welfare needs of the dog, where necessary with ability to maintain a suitable level of fitness

 

Administration & Operations

-          Ability to use IT to keep accurate dog welfare records, petty cash, shop sales

-          Works to strict health and safety procedures

-          Motivated to engage and participate in fundraising activities, events and in educational and awareness raising, events  and activities

-          Knowledge of implementing social media responsibility

-          Team working with work mates and volunteers

 

Profile & Reputation

-          Able to assess and understand the desires of the public who visit us, particularly Meet & Match 

-          Good communication skills to offer good customer care promoting a positive, helpful, honest and friendly environment to ensure they leave with a great impression

-          Ability to make sales from fundraising tickets to shop sales and services

-          Full, clean UK driving licence
